Director of People Operations

Job description

We are a fast-growing, mission-driven financial services company that provides quality financial services for all: from protecting grandma’s money from scammers to providing supplemental financial tools that support disabled veterans. We are looking for a Director of People Operations, who is passionate about our mission and relishes the fact that every day we have the privilege of serving those who are often overlooked by big financial institutions.

This is a high-visibility role, in which you will work closely with the CEO, COO, and the full company leadership team, while also having a high level of autonomy in your day-to-day work.

What you’ll do:

  • Streamline and lead our people operations, HR, and recruiting efforts
  • Make sure we are attracting top talent and have a streamlined onboarding process
  • Effectively establish and implement HR systems and processes to support a workforce that will scale from 40 to 100+ over the next few years
  • Build out our people strategy which includes but is not limited to: performance management, talent acquisition, employee engagement, compensation, benefits, retention, employee and manager training, employee handbook, and culture-building initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements of HR
  • Serve as a senior advisor and confidant to the founders and the executive team on all people related matters to ensure the company has the talent, processes/systems, and policies necessary to support our strategic and financial goals
  • Build trust with employees across all layers of the organization and be an active listener effective problem solver of people issues
  • Manage multiple team members and key processes across the organization

Who you are and your professional experience:

  • 10+ years of professional experience
  • 5+ years of HR, performance management, and/or people ops experience
  • Expert understanding of employment law, compensation, benefits, organizational development, employee relations, and training
  • Experience supporting both salary and hourly workforces, creating relevant and meaningful employee programs, reviews, and feedback loops
  • Excellent project management skills with a proven ability to design and implement people strategy that drives business results
  • Good listener with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability and willingness to provide feedback
  • Systems and process-thinker who loves creating order out of chaos
  • Deeply loyal and ethical person with a steel-trap with confidential information
  • Team player who understands we succeed by working together and supporting each other
  • Experience in managing healthcare and payroll vendors
  • Strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Depth of knowledge of HR software solutions and willingness to review and recommend upgrades to existing software systems
  • PHR/SHRM-CP, or other HR certification preferred
